Prof Mythri Babu, Assistant Professor, Office of Foundation Studies, and Deputy Manager, Photography Lab, is a visual artist, educator and designer whose practice spans photography, animation, video and illustration.

At Anant, Prof Babu contributes to Foundation Studies while supporting the University’s Photography Lab. Her work brings together visual practice and experiential learning, encouraging students to explore creative expression through observation, experimentation and hands-on engagement with diverse media.

She has over seven years of experience as a designer, working across animation, video production and publication design. Before joining Anant, she worked as a 2D animator and graphic designer at Akshayakalpa Organic, contributing to visual communication projects across multiple formats.

Her interest in education led her to work as a mathematics researcher and educator at Jodo Gyan, where she approached learning as a process that emerges from concrete experiences. This engagement with education continues to inform her pedagogical practice and interest in experiential approaches to learning.

Mythri holds an MDes in Photography Design from the National Institute of Design Gandhinagar, and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. Her academic journey reflects a unique intersection of scientific inquiry, visual arts and design practice.

Her photographic practice has received international recognition, with her work exhibited in various parts of the world. Images from her series Memory of a School were exhibited at Vantage Point Sharjah 10, the annual photography exhibition organised by the Sharjah Art Foundation. She also mentored Portraits in Becoming, a photography workshop focused on self-portraiture, as part of the 2026 edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

Beyond her academic and professional practice, Mythri creates graphic narratives, works on children’s books and experiments with 2D animation. She is particularly fascinated by collective memory and the possibilities of preserving and archiving shared experiences. Her practice continues to explore personal narratives, visual storytelling and the relationship between memory, identity and place.
