Arundhati Mitra is an Assistant Professor at the Office of Foundation Studies and Bachelor of Visual Arts, bringing strong expertise in material understanding, handling and application. With a keen interest in form, function and ergonomics, she effectively bridges industrial design and the crafts sector, integrating technical knowledge with traditional practices in her teaching and research.
At Anant, she follows a practice-oriented teaching approach that immerses students in industrial processes, traditional crafts and material exploration. Through thoughtfully designed projects, she promotes hands-on learning, critical inquiry and experimentation, helping students translate conceptual ideas into real-world solutions and gain a comprehensive understanding of design practice.
Arundhati holds a Master of Design (MDes) in Ceramic and Glass Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and a four-year Undergraduate Professional Diploma in Craft Design in Fired Material Application from the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design, Jaipur. She also holds a certificate as a User Experience Designer from ImaginXP.
Her professional journey is anchored in specialised experience in industrial ceramic design at Prism Johnson Limited, H & R Johnson (India) Division, where she served as a Designer in the Product Design, Development and Packaging Department. Prior to this, she developed a strong foundation in functional and artisanal ceramics through engagements with studios, industries, NGOs and craft clusters.
Beyond academia, Arundhati is passionate about documenting and collecting diverse craft traditions from across the country. She enjoys watching films, listening to music and experimenting with new recipes, and has also participated in several theatre productions and student-directed short films.
