The Ajrakh project studies the transformation of Ajrakh block printing, an ancient and culturally significant craft tradition from Kutch, Gujarat, into a contemporary modular display typeface. Rooted in the philosophy of The Typecraft Initiative, which seeks to empower craftspeople, this typeface aims to bring the handmade into the digital domain while ensuring that artisans are central to the process. The final output will be a modular display font developed through workshops, collaborative design explorations and digital refinement, culminating in a unique typographic voice grounded in the visual language of Ajrakh textiles.
