Members of the AnantU family celebrated Diwali in campus before breaking out for the mid-year vacation. Students made rangoli at various spots in the academic building, and organised a fun-filled session later that day. The gathering began with classical dance performances by students, followed by AnantU’s Provost, Dr. Pramath Raj Sinha, addressing the audience on the university's achievements in the last one year, and its future plans. Later, everyone participated in games, music and dance. The community retired after a scrumptious dinner served in the courtyard.

Marking our presence at India Design Confluence

Students and faculties of AnantU attended the India Design Confluence(IDC), a three-day long design festival held in Ahmedabad. It aimed to bring together design students from various disciplines and colleges to exchange ideas and share knowledge on the upcoming trends in the industry.

Anant National University was the academic partner for this mega event. Aparna Piramal Raje, columnist, author and guest faculty at AnantU, delivered a lecture on ‘Workspace Archetypes’ at IDC. It enlightened participants on the practices and behaviours prevalent at workplaces.

Other prominent speakers including Sunil Sethi, president, Fashion Design Council of India, Rajeev Sethi, scenographer and art curator, Angela Guzmen, lead design, Google, and Rajesh Kutty, lead interior designer, Bentley Motors Ltd shared their experiences too. The event was attended by more than 6,000 students and professionals.

As a part of the material and climate studio, a panel jury on climatology was conducted to assess the work of second year, BArch students. The module required them to develop a clear understanding of the major climatic zones present in India - hot & dry, cold, warm & humid, and composite - and design strategies to devise various kinds of architectural forms. It was established through previous theoretical lectures that climate is an important factor to be considered while designing with respect to the region.

Students had designed panels and displayed pop-up models to explain their strategies. Jasmine Gohil, Vice Principal, School of Architecture, and other faculties gave their inputs on each presentation.

Regional Planning Lab Review

Vadodara is the third largest populous city in the state. The potential of the city isn’t justified by the pace of development taking place. The fourth-year B.Plan students are currently studying how to utilize the potential of the district as a whole by preparing metropolitan plans for the region which include certain zones, regulations and policies. The students were divided into two groups covering the two major sectors of this region: Agriculture and Industry. The focus of these two sectors is emphasized as it plays a crucial role in the economic factor of Vadodara. One group is focusing on the vision towards agricultural development while the other is focusing on industrial development.

Pre-final jury for the ‘Regional Planning Lab’, was held under the guidance of Prof. Ashima Banker, Vice Principal, School of Planning. We encourage the students to explore the topic further and wish them luck for their final projects.

A step toward healthier minds

“Being healthy is being wealthy.”

This is something we have been taught right from senior kindergarten. But as we grow older, and our lives get busier, this crucial lesson fades away more and more. There is barely any thought we put into our inner wellbeing. We often forget that the success we’re striving for in our academics and careers will never truly come if we don’t have a healthy mind.

You can’t make a lemonade of your hardships if you can no longer catch lemons, right?

To ensure the mental wellbeing of all the students, staff and faculty, Bloom, Centre for Wellbeing at AnantU, with the help of YourDost, has initiated weekly counselling sessions for anybody in need. The experts provide a helping hand for attaining a healthy state of mind, and together we all aim to have happy minds and happy souls on our campus.

Dhal Ni Pol festival is a project by LxS (Local to society), a CSR initiative of Brihati Foundation. LxS has been working on improving the condition of public spaces in the precinct of Dhal ni Pol, a heritage area in the old city of Ahmedabad.

A photography competition, ‘AMD PHOTORAMA’, was organized as a part of the festival, in which our faculty member, Prof. Mrs. Neha Nair had participated. Through her images, she portrayed nature intertwining amongst chaos of the Pol. They were later recognized as some of the best entries.

An international conference on Scholarly Communication, Open-Access Publishing and Ethics-2018 was organised on 25th-26th October at the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada. Faculties of AnantU, Prof. Mrs Dhara Dave and Prof. Mrs Archana Baghel presented their research papers, “Searching New Pedagogy, Teaching History of Architecture in architecture institutes” and “Analysis of Current Internship Practice and its Relevance with Curriculum: A Case Study of Architecture School” respectively at the conference.

The effort apparent of humanity’s tries
Early morning, look at the people
Men, women, boys, girls running
School and jobs, a common goal
To do something, to be something
Some aspirations grand, some simple
Life defined by wants
If you exist, get what you want
Concept of reincarnation, open to interpretation
But be empowered by belief, mystic, logic or love
Religious or atheist, your thoughts reflective
Different attires but attending the same party
Your view, our view, his view, their view
People stand, look at each other, accept
Now paint a beautiful canvas.
Your existence is a pride
Thinking contrary, your thoughts have lied
Imperfections, a gift, work hard and see the fun
Saw pokemon? Loved seeing the evolution.

Sometimes the cynicism screams, selfish people
Look behind the sad people’s world facade
It ain’t a sad place
Look at the bounty of happiness, hope you get one
You look at every stride, think that’s normal
I see giant collective of machines working
All mechanism different
Then how is it synchronised?
A mystery, unspoken yet believed
